What to Wear to a Job Interview?

Are you having a hard time wondering hat to wear on a job interview? The most important thing that you should keep in mind is that you look professional and polished. Regardless of the job and position you’re applying for, you should always make sure to come in looking neat, tidy and well-dressed. You know what they say, “Dress for the job you want, NOT the job you have.” Consider your job interview the perfect opportunity to make a great first impression on your potential employer. Part of the interviewing process is dressing for success. Need inspiration for your interview attire? Here are some ideas of what to wear to an interview.

Button Downs Don’t Have to be Boring!

Why limit yourself to the basic white, blue or black button-down shirt when you can get creative with other colors or even patterns that will still offer a tasteful and professional look.  You can also experiment with fabrics, like sheer silk chiffon which look great layered over a camisole. If you decide to go with a women’s button-down shirt just remember to make sure your bra is covered and avoid showing cleavage. Another huge tip is to keep your button-down tucked in for a more polished look. Pair it with a nice pair of trouser and some pumps.

A Blouse with a Touch of Elegance

If you want to go for an elegant look, I’d go for a blouse with a bow. Wear it tucked into a pencil skirt or dress pants. You can also add a jacket to dress up the look. I’d pair the blouse with a pencil skirt and add skinny waist belt for a touch of detail that makes the top pop.

A Little Black Dress

A black dress is an essential part in any business wardrobe. A little black dress that skims the knee is perfect for impressing potential employers. Add black tights with a subtle pattern and black pumps for classic, business formal look. You can wear the dress alone or layer it with a blazer or structured cardigan.

The Tweed Suit

Tired of wearing the classic all black suit? Wear a tweed suit in a classic print that is stylish and shows you take the opportunity seriously. Keep your look professional by adding a neutral colored leather accessories and minimal jewelry.

A Classic Pair of Black Dress Pants

Invest in a pair of women’s black dress pants that fit well and will hold up after many wears. A classic pair of black dress pants is easy to dress up or down. You can go for a business casual look and pair them with a pullover cashmere sweater tucked in. Or you can pair them with button-down or a blazer for a formal look. Get creative and pair the black dress pants with a patterned blouse tucked in. Add a waist belt for detail and peep-toe heels.

Statement Dresses

It’s important to keep your interview attire as professional and conservative as possible, but who says you can’t experiment with color and prints? A deep red, hunter green, burgundy or a sapphire would be a great addition to your interview wardrobe. When working with colors, the dress would make a statement all on its own and you wouldn’t need to bother adding jewelry or other accessories. One thing to keep in mind is to make sure that both the neckline and hemline are appropriate. Go for midi dresses instead of short dresses. Throw on some black heels and you’re all set for a successful interview.
